My journey to becoming a Marriage & Family Therapist got its spark during my time as a teaching and research assistant while earning a doctorate in anthropology at UCLA. As a graduate student, I spent many hours becoming immersed in the everyday lives of families in Los Angeles, talking to them during morning and evening routines at home, during commutes to school, at their workplaces. Though my role in their lives was not as a health professional, I became moved and inspired by their stories and experiences, and as a result, I discovered that what I really wanted to do next was become a psychotherapist and to help others. After I earned my Ph.D., I did an unconventional thing and I went right back to school (literally, about two weeks later) and entered the MA program in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University, Los Angeles. Who does that? I chose Antioch because I felt at home with their emphasis on social justice, and they were the only psychology program at that time that had a specialization in LGBT psychology.
I began my clinical training at Antioch University Counseling Center in 2008, and I returned there at the beginning of 2014. During subsequent years as an intern at the LGBT Center in Hollywood, I provided counseling to both LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ teens, adults, and couples, and I co-facilitated groups helping people create healthier relationships and helping them reduce their substance abuse. While at the LGBT Center I also served as a case manager in the Jeffrey Goodman Clinic, where I linked patients to a range of much-needed referrals and resources. I continue to hone my clinical skills by taking continuing education courses as part of my professional development. I am a Certified LGBT-Affirmative Therapy Provider and a Certified Substance Abuse Provider through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and the Matrix Institute on Addictions. I serve people in the cities of Rancho Cucamonga, Claremont, Upland, Ontario, Redlands, Fontana, and the greater San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire, CA.
I am a native of Southern California, and have been with my partner for 25 years (married for four!). In my free time I enjoy being outdoors—hiking, birdwatching, raising butterflies, and playing with my dog, Ben. My passion for music has led me to join up with various guitar jams and guitar camps in the southern California area. It's so much fun to play along with others, even when I don't know the songs!
